Paradise celebrates 80 years.
Posted: 19 Oct 2018
The Paradise Seventh-day Adventist Church of Vermont, St. Vincent and the Grenadines is this year celebrating its 80th anniversary (1938 - 2018). The Vermont Seventh-day Adventist Church traces its origins back to 1932 when the enthusiasm and zeal of our beloved Sis. Edith Straker caused her to begin worship services with a small group of like-minded believers. However, it was not until 1938, following an evangelistic crusade by Ps. Payne of Guyana that the church was formally incorporated into the sisterhood of churches.
The theme of the celebratory year is, “Redeeming the Past, Transforming the Future - 80 Years of Transforming Grace.”
To celebrate this milestone anniversary, the Church is engaged in a year of activities which was launched on Sabbath 27th January 2018 and will culminate with the Anniversary celebration service on Sabbath, 17th November, 2018.
DEFINING MOMENTS OF THE YEAR
I. THE LAUNCH
The celebrations officially started with an impressive ceremony in January 2018 when a brief history of the church was presented along with the Calendar of Events. The president of the SVG Mission of SDAs, Ps. Dermoth Baptiste, unveiled the anniversary banner and declared the launch of the celebrations. Elder Thomas Primus, a former member of the Vermont Church was the featured speaker and presented a heart-stirring message entitled “Transformed.” A grand fellowship lunch followed the ceremony.
II. EVANGELISTIC THRUST
To date, the Church was actively engaged in two evangelistic campaigns for the year. The first was the “Amazing Love Empowerment Community Series” conducted by Ps. Jumoul Sancho, in partnership with the Leeward Zone of Seventh-day Adventists in the Buccament Bay Community from 22nd April - 19th May 2018. Over sixty precious souls, including fourteen from the Vermont community, elected for the kingdom of God.
The second was the “Deliverance In Jesus Campaign” conducted by our very own Elder. Hollis Browne, a third year ministerial student at the University of the Southern Caribbean, Trinidad. After three weeks of spiritual warfare (22 July - 11th August 2018), this effort yielded twelve baptisms. To God be the glory!
