Meet Haniff: Someone special
Posted: 14 Oct 2018
Haniff Sutherland is a special person who loves the Lord and serves Him with unrelenting fervor. He volunteers as a technical advisor to the Communication Department and, as such, we would like to highlight his service and his recent health challenges.
Haniff is a member of the Adventist Communication Professionals – a group of volunteers who are working to chart the way forward for the Communication Department of the St. Vincent & the Grenadines Mission of Seventh-day Adventists. As a technocrat he has assumed responsibility for growing the brand of who we are around St. Vincent & the Grenadines by assisting with content management, and guiding in critical areas of this growing ministry.
Haniff has a hobby of making pens and other craft items from wood. This turned into a viable business (Hairouna Crafts) in which he invested time and energy. It was while in his shop, one day that he first noticed something was different with his right thigh. He figured it was simply a passing discomfort and overlooked it was assumed until it became extremely painful. The doctor’s visit eventually became inevitable and he was advised to seek medical care overseas immediately.
Over the past two months Haniff has been challenged. The initial prognosis indicated that he would lose a limb, a second consultation with another oncologist yielded a different and more hopeful assessment - he had found a doctor willing to do a perform a difficult surgery that did not involve losing a limb. As we all know, such surgery is costly, thus family, friends and well wishers are pledging their support for Haniff’s recovery through the GoFundMe link https://www.gofundme.com/haniff039s-gofund-me.
We are pleased to report that Haniff had a successful surgery and is currently undergoing therapy to regain strength and mobility in his leg. Haniff plans to record his journey as a testimony to the Almighty God who has chosen him as a conduit of miracles.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Haniff and his family. Today, let us lift up Haniff in prayer along with all the many others afflicted by cancer. As we lift them up in prayer, let us also be aware of how susceptible each of us may be to this scourge of diseases and take nothing for granted.
To all those who suffer, let us be mindful of the comfort Paul gave so far ahead of even your existence:
16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:16-19 NIV)
